Care
Light
Cordyline prefer moderate indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions as well. Lower light will slow growth. More time should be given in between waterings in lower light conditions, in order to avoid potential root rot. This plant should not be placed in direct sun, as its leaves will burn.
Water
Cordyline prefer to be on the drier side. The soil should be allowed to completely dry between waterings, at which point the plant should be watered thoroughly. Signs of overwatering include brown tips of leaves and root rot. Yellow leaves can indicate underwatering, but keep in mind this plant will naturally lose its lower leaves as it grows. We recommend fertilizing every month during spring through summer with a diluted general houseplant fertilizer.
Care
This is a low maintenance houseplant. It enjoys high humidity but will tolerate normal to low levels of humidity as well. As it grows, it will drop old leaves to slowly reveal a skinny trunk. This plant can be pruned for a bushier look, but it is typically grown as a tall, skinny tree. If the plant is pruned, stem cuttings can be propagated to create new plants. This plant enjoys being root bound in a smaller size pot, so we recommend waiting to repot it until absolutely necessary.
