Care

Light

This plant prefers bright indirect light. It will produce better color and compact growth when given more light, and it can even tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight a day. Too little light can lead to leggy, weak growth and lead to root rot issues.

Water

The stems of this plant are semi-succulent, making it quite tolerant of dry soil. It will not complain if you forget to water once in a while. On the other hand, if the soil is not allowed to mostly dry out in between waterings, root rot and stem rot may occur. If the plant is growing slowly or appears wilted, increase the frequency of waterings.

Care

Tradescantia Zebrina is one of those houseplants that generally thrives on neglect. Most problems will arise from too little light or from overwatering. If the plant becomes overgrown or leggy it can be pruned and propagated to create a fuller plant or new plants. It should be fertilized monthly through the spring and summer with diluted general houseplant fertilizer.
