Staghorn Fern Care
Watering:
Staghorn Ferns are all about that consistent moisture, so they like to be watered when the top inch of soil is dry. These plants don’t like to dry out completely, so keep the soil lightly moist at all times. If they get too dry, the fronds will wilt or turn brown. Using distilled or rainwater is ideal, as ferns can be sensitive to the chemicals in tap water.
Light:
Staghorn Ferns prefer low to moderate indirect light. They thrive in the dappled light of an east-west, north or south-facing window. Direct sunlight can scorch their delicate fronds, so keep them out of harsh rays. If you’re looking for a plant to brighten up a shaded corner, a fern could be your perfect match!
General Care:
-
Fertilizing: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertilizer to promote lush growth.
-
Pest Control: Ferns are generally pest-resistant, but if you notice pests like spider mites, treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
-
Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when they outgrow their pot. Use a well-draining, peat-based soil mix to keep them happy.
-
Humidity: Ferns love high humidity, around 60-80%. Mist them daily or place them near a humidifier to keep their fronds lush and green.
-
Pruning & Propagation: Trim any brown or dead fronds to keep your fern looking its best. Propagate by division when repotting, gently separating the plant into smaller sections.
