Alocasia Reginae Care
Watering:
Alocasia Reginae likes its soil to stay moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. If it gets too thirsty, you might see the leaves droop, but they'll perk up quickly once you give them a drink. Be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to yellowing leaves and root rot. These plants are also sensitive to tap water, so using distilled or rainwater is a good idea.
Light:
Alocasia Reginae prefers bright, indirect light. An east- or west-facing window is ideal, where it can get plenty of light without direct sun, which can burn its delicate leaves. If your Alocasia isn’t getting enough light, it may become leggy or its growth may slow down. Rotate the plant every couple of weeks to ensure even growth and prevent it from leaning towards the light source.
General Care:
-
Fertilizing: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, diluted fertilizer to support its rapid growth.
-
Pest Control: Alocasias can attract spider mites and other pests, especially in dry conditions. Treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap if you notice any pests.
-
Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years in spring, using a well-draining soil mix. Alocasias grow quickly, so be prepared to move them into a larger pot when they outgrow their current one.
-
Humidity: These plants love high humidity, around 60-70%. Mist regularly or place near a humidifier to keep them thriving. If the air is too dry, you may notice the edges of the leaves turning brown.
-
Pruning & Propagation: Remove any yellow or damaged leaves to keep your Alocasia looking its best. You can propagate by division during repotting, separating the plant into smaller sections with roots attached.
