Sansevieria Mikado Care

Sansevieria Mikado Care | Plant Guides | Plant Proper

Watering:

Sansevieria is drought-tolerant and prefers dry conditions. Water when the soil is completely dry, which could be every 2-3 weeks, but we suggest putting your knuckle in the top inches of the soil to tell if it’s dried out. If underwatered, the leaves might wrinkle. Overwatering leads to mushy leaves and root rot.

Light:

Sansevieria Mikado thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates low light and even some direct sunlight. An south- or west-facing window is perfect, but it can grow in almost any light condition, making it super versatile like a east or north-facing window as well.

General Care:

  • Fertilizing: Feed once every 6-8 weeks during spring and summer with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. They don’t need much!

  • Pest Control: Sansevierias are pretty resistant to pests, but treat with neem oil if you spot anything.

  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the roots start to burst from the pot. They prefer being root-bound, so don’t rush to repot.

  • Humidity: Sansevierias are very tolerant of low humidity and thrive in average household conditions. No extra humidity is needed!

  • Pruning & Propagation: Pruning is rarely necessary, but you can remove damaged leaves as needed. Propagate by dividing the root ball or by planting leaf cuttings directly into soil.
