Dracaena Ray of Sunshine Care

Dracaena Ray of Sunshine Care | Care Guide | Plant Proper

Watering:

Dracaenas (including Sansevierias) prefer their soil to dry out between waterings. Water when the soil is completely dry, which might be every 2-3 weeks depending on your environment, but we don’t like to use an exact amount of days. These plants are quite drought-tolerant, so it’s better to underwater than overwater them. If they’re too dry, their leaves might wrinkle or curl, but overwatering can lead to mushy leaves and root rot.

Light:

Dracaena Ray of Sunshine thrives in bright, indirect light but are also very adaptable and can tolerate low light conditions. They’re perfect for rooms with less natural light. However, avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves. They do well in an east, west or south-facing window but can thrive almost anywhere in your home.

General Care:

  • Fertilizing: Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertilizer. They’re not heavy feeders, so just a little boost now and then is plenty.

  • Pest Control: Dracaenas are generally pest-resistant, but if you notice pests like spider mites, treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.

  • Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its pot. Use a well-draining soil mix to avoid waterlogged roots.

  • Humidity: These plants are very tolerant of low humidity and thrive in average household conditions. They don't require extra humidity, making them easy to care for.

  • Pruning & Propagation: Prune dead or yellow leaves to keep your Dracaena looking neat. To propagate, cut a healthy leaf or stem and root it in water or soil.
